Current Implementations of WTPC
We have launched our pilot project for WTPC in the form of the Sustainable Communities Framework (SCF) in the Kingdom of Ososo, in partnership with its King, HRH. Oba (King) Bamidele Obaitan. King Obaitan, recognizing the potential significance of the implementation of the Sustainable Communities Framework in all its manifestations. He basically told us “I want to do it all!”. From there we explored the various programs to determine which ones we should start with and go from there.
Every region in the world has its own unique conditions, but for Nigeria, extreme poverty and food insecurity rank at the top of its problems. Nigeria is the 6th most populated country in the world (~230 million), but according to the UN, has the distinction of having a higher percentage of its citizens (~90 million) living in extreme poverty (less than $2.15 per day) than just about any other country in the world today. Given that, we determined that the first program we should launch in Ososo is a Basic Food Grant program, while other regions may prioritize other goals to start.
And even though Ososo has a population of approximately 100,000 citizens, this will be one of the largest food grant programs in history, let alone what is to follow as we expand throughout the rest of the state of Edo, whose population is around 5 million residents, and on to the rest of Nigeria.
What is even more significant than the scale of this food grant program is the fact that it is not dependent on any ongoing source of funds from the government or foundations/donors to keep it going, as SCC’s program has no limit on the grants it can issue, guaranteeing that the program will continue as long as it is needed. This means we can permanently eliminate food insecurity from Ososo and beyond. That directly addresses the 2nd goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN – “Zero Hunger”, one of its 17 SDG goals, as defined on the UN website.
No other program in history has the realistic prospect of truly eliminating hunger like this program. Yet this program does more than just eliminate hunger. If a person has enough food to properly address their nutritional needs daily, and assuming they have water and shelter and don’t get injured or sick, they essentially have their basic core needs taken care of. That means extreme poverty is also eliminated, which is the 1st SDG goal, “End poverty in all its forms everywhere”. So, in just one program we provide an unprecedented ability to address two of the UN’s SDGs.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg. We are implementing many more programs under the umbrella of the Sustainable Communities Framework. For the full spectrum of the SCF program in Ososo, go to this site for the full story.
Youngstown, Ohio
Youngstown Ohio has the unique distinction of being the birthplace of the “rust belt“. On September 19, 1977, 5,000 steel workers went into work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, only to learn they were being laid off immediately. That became know as Black Monday, and over the next year a total of ~50,000 steel workers lost their jobs in north east Ohio and western Pennsylvania, commencing a contagion of deindustrialization, offshoring and “free trade” that has since made mass layoffs commonplace. More than 40 years later, the effects are still being felt in Youngstown and the surrounding areas.
It is fitting then that Youngstown, like the mythical Phoenix, should rise out of its ashes and become the birthplace of an economic revival that will likely lift the whole rest of the United States. The “how” is what this website is all about, by communities all across the country embracing this new economic model, whether they do so on their own or join with Sustainable Communities Corporation (SCC) to implement our Sustainable Communities Framework (SCF).
Youngstown is the home of SCC and the logical place to launch the SCF in the United States. It will not only serve as the center of gravity for the nationwide effort, but also serve as the center for the first state effort, which is based in Ohio. And as stated above, every region in the world has its own unique conditions, and the conditions in a developed country like the United States are very different than those in the developing world in places like Nigeria. Thus, the need for establishing a pilot project in the U.S. also.
And even in the U.S., we will likely find different elements of our SCF program being emphasized in different locations, based on local conditions. So, one state may start with one or more of our programs and other states start with different programs. We anticipate that as each state comes on board that we will describe their local activities on a website dedicated to that state. However, over time, most will expand into the full spectrum of what is possible and begin to resemble each other more and more.
So, for Ohio in general and Youngstown in specific, go to https://oh.scf.green and https://oh.scf.green/youngstown. (Please note – these sites will dynamically change as things rapidly evolve locally.)
